![]() ![]() Richards route weaves down the mountain sticking to the ski routes, while the snowmobiles take a more direct route - firing themselves over jumps as they make their way down. The race between the Touareg and the snowmobiles begins at the very top of a ski run, before continuing down the mountain and eventually finishing at a ski shop on the other side of a frozen lake. It has a carbon fiber body, bionic suspension and a hp twin turbo diesel engine. But this is not the Touareg Richard will use for the race, instead he goes with the Dakar rally version of the Touareg, which is a very different beast. ![]() The styling of the Touareg has also changed - it now looks more like the Golf and comes with more equipment as standard, such as satnav, electric leather seats, climate control and a 10 speaker stereo system. Improvements include being able to see out of the rear window, a smoother ride and a much faster shifting 8-speed automatic gearbox. Up to this point, they were superimposed over a brief highlight reel of the episode.Richard introduces the new Touareg and reports that VW have managed to turn what was previously a half arsed car into quite a good one. This was the first episode where the end credits were overlaid on top of a black screen.The aformentioned sequence was filmed on the 27th of April, 2006, approximately 10 days before the Series 8 premiere, and aired 19 months later.The Alfa Romeo 159 segment was massively delayed originally intended to air during Series 8, appearing in the opening teaser sequence in the first episode, it was initially pushed back to Series 9 and then pushed back further once Hammond's Vampire Dragster Crash reduced the latter to six episodes. ![]() Jeremy announces that he is going to be driving the then-new Honda Civic Type R, but before he does, he wants to regale the audience with what made its predecessors such a hit, particularly for the type of "young men who have spiky product in their hair and communicate by grunting", pointing to a young male audience member in a tracksuit. ![]() Rugby's Lawrence Dallaglio was the guest star.
